In a recent development, U.S. presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy indicated that the government views Bitcoin BTC/USD as a threat. He has committed to discussing the digital asset in the impending Republican debate.
What Happened: According to a report by The Daily Hodl, Ramaswamy stated that the government’s hesitation to fully accept Bitcoin stems from viewing the leading digital asset as a potential threat to its existence.
In a conversation on the “What Bitcoin Did” podcast, Ramaswamy expressed that Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-Mass.) stance on Bitcoin arises from a different worldview. Warren, a dedicated crypto critic, supports the Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act. This bill, according to blockchain lobbyists, would essentially prohibit digital assets in the US.

Ramaswamy argued that those in the crypto community hoping to gain support for digital assets are incorrect in their belief that educating politicians will change their stance on crypto.
He stated, "The problem isn't that they don't know what Bitcoin represents. It's that they do, and that's actually what creates the anaphylactic response."
Moreover, Ramaswamy pledged to raise the issue of Bitcoin in debates, saying, "I've already told the moderators in the Republican Party. This should be a topic we need to be talking about. If they don't [bring Bitcoin up], I will."
Why It Matters: Ramaswamy’s stance on Bitcoin and his commitment to discuss it in the upcoming GOP debate brings the conversation about digital assets into the political mainstream. Earlier in November, Ramaswamy appeared on the Coin Stories podcast where he described Bitcoin as "an opt-out from the broken financial architecture created by the Federal Reserve system." He further suggested that the U.S. government may view Bitcoin as a rival to its monetary authority.
