Bitcoin BTC/USD is celebrating its 15th birthday.
But this past year was especially celebratory, as the number of Bitcoin millionaire wallets skyrocketed by 300%.
There are now over 91,000 such wallets, nearly four times as many as this time last year, according to analytics firm Glassnode.
However, this figure has not yet reached the all-time high seen in November 2021. In addition, the number of "wholecoiners" — wallets containing at least one full Bitcoin — has surpassed one million for the first time.
Data from Bitinfocharts reports 89,111 addresses holding over 1 million in Bitcoin and 7,382 addresses with balances exceeding 10 million. In total, there are around 45.4 million addresses containing some amount of bitcoin.
The top 100 richest Bitcoin addresses are led by a Binance cold wallet worth an estimated 10.7 billion. A Bitfinex cold wallet follows with a value of around 9 billion.
Cathie Wood of Ark Invest recently said Bitcoin will be viewed as comparable to investing in physical gold. The digital asset is said to represent a valuable hedge against both inflation and deflation.
With a market capitalization of $840.7 billion, Bitcoin stands as the ninth most valuable asset in the world. Its year-to-date gains are 1.6%, while the overall crypto market has a capitalization of 1.67 trillion.
Trader Oliver L. Velez predicted on the social media: “Let us not forget that #Bitcoin is the 9th most valuable asset in the world. In less than 15 years, it surpassed 7,963 other assets to accomplish this. By the end of 2025, I suspect it to be in the top three. We shall see.”
