Kabosu, who became the face of Dogecoin and other dog-themed cryptocurrencies, passed away at the age of 19. The news was announced by an account dedicated to the legendary canine, stating that Kabosu passed away early morning Japanese time.

The owner revealed that the funeral will be held on May 26 at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City.
The death of Kabosu has cast a shadow over the usually vibrant cryptocurrency industry, with many prominent figures expressing their condolences. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin also mourned the loss, writing “Rest in peace Kabochan.”
The Dogecoin Foundation paid tribute, saying “Rest in peace, dear Kabosu, beloved Doge. You were very much wow.”

Meanwhile, popular meme coins Dogecoin, Shiba Inu SHIB/USD, and Floki FLOKI/USD cracked after the dog they are inspired by died. All three cryptocurrencies were down between 5% to 7% in the last 24 hours after Kabosu passed away.
