If You Invested $1000 In This Ethereum Killer When Warren Buffett Had Dinner With Justin Sun, Here's How Much You'd Have Today

Berkshire Hathaway Chairman Warren Buffett may have had some rather sharp things to say about cryptocurrency as an asset class, but that didn't deter the veteran Wall Street investor from engaging with some of the biggest names in the industry.

What happened: Cryptocurrency mogul and founder of Tron TRX/USD blockchain Justin Sun has been known for his flamboyant opulence, spending millions to win bids that signal his status.

Back in 2019, Sun won the eBay charity auction to have lunch with Buffett with a record-setting $4.57 million bid. He finally had his date with the "Oracle of Omaha” on Feb. 6, 2020, bringing with him other big industry entrepreneurs like Litecoin LTC/USD creator Charlie Lee.

At the time, Tron's native cryptocurrency, TRX, was priced at $0.022633. So, an investment of $1000 would have fetched you 44,183.272 units of the asset.

Cut to Dec. 2024, one TRX is valued at $0.2465. So, if you HODLed your way through the ebb and flow of the market, your stash would be worth $10,891 today, netting a massive 989% return.

Why It Matters: When Sun won the lunch with Buffett, he penned an open letter saying that he would have a conversation with the Wall Street legend on cryptocurrencies and blockchain.

"I want to point out, though, that even one of the most successful investors of all times can sometimes miss a coming wave," Sun wrote, but admitted that even the blockchain community has a "lot to prove" about the benefits of the industry.

While we don't know what transpired between Sun and Buffett on that day, one thing is certain. The Berkshire Hathaway Chair's views on cryptocurrencies haven't changed much.

Price Action: At the time of writing, TRX was exchanging hands at $0.2465, up 0.33 % in the last 24 hours, according to data from Benzinga Pro
