This Company Says It Looks To Help Protect What It Calls Humanity's Greatest Asset

What is humanity’s greatest asset? Is it intellect? A capacity for great feeling? Collective wisdom?

ORIGYN Foundation believes it is human creativity. And although perhaps, there really is no true answer, creativity may be a real contender. Imagining and creating arguably requires the employment of all of its assets simultaneously. And it is distinctly, uniquely human.

That is why ORIGYN says it is dedicated to preserving and protecting human creativity. The foundation says it is harnessing the power of one of the more recent manifestations of humanity’s creative spark: the blockchain. With this new, revolutionary technology, alongside other advancements in artificial intelligence, ORIGYN states that it is able to help guarantee ownership and authenticity of art and other objects of value.

This has long been a concern, and much effort goes into ensuring that authenticity, but humanity’s methods have remained unchanged for hundreds of years. Provenance is tricky, and major forgeries and fraud plague the worlds of art, luxury goods and collectibles.

And with contemporary works like Andy Warhol’s “Marilyn” selling for close to $200 million, the desire to authenticate and prevent fraud might never be higher.

ORIGYN reports that it uses biometric data and artificial intelligence to scan and authenticate items to attempt to unequivocally prove that the item is not a forgery. It then issues a non-fungible token (NFT) as immutable proof of ownership. The NFT is linked to the piece of art and, like all NFTs, is impossible to counterfeit. This is the power of the blockchain.

The foundation is using the Internet Computer (ICP) platform to facilitate its technology. ICP is a decentralized, distributed computing network that is meant to allow for fast, scalable cloud computing. This means there is no single entity like Amazon.com Inc. AMZN or Microsoft Corp. MSFT that owns or controls the data, hopefully allowing for a trustless system in which no one can commit fraud or take advantage of vulnerabilities.

ORIGYN says it will also provide a marketplace in which ownership can be transacted. The foundation created its own utility token — OGY — that will be used to interact with the platform. It will also be used as a governance token, meaning important decisions surrounding the ecosystem will be made using a democratic and decentralized process, looking to empower individual users.

ORIGYN states that it hopes to be a global authority of authentication, helping the world secure and protect the results of humanity’s greatest asset: creativity.
