Opioid Overdose Treatment: Walgreens To Stock FDA-Approved NARCAN Spray

Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc WBA said over-the-counter (OTC) NARCAN Nasal Spray will be available at Walgreens stores and online as soon as September 5, with nationwide availability on September 7.

The announcement follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval earlier this year.

NARCAN Nasal Spray can reverse the effects of opioids, including fentanyl.

Also, Emergent BioSolutions Inc EBS, the maker of NARCAN Naloxone HCl Nasal Spray, said today that Naloxone 4 mg will be available on shelves nationwide and online beginning in September.

Naloxone counteracts life-threatening depression of the central nervous and respiratory systems, allowing overdose victims to breathe normally again.

"As a leading healthcare company, providing access to OTC naloxone creates an opportunity for bystanders, friends and family members to potentially save a life," said Walgreens chief medical officer Kevin Ban.

Price Action: WBA shares are trading higher by 0.12% at $25.57 on the last check Wednesday.
