Mercedes-Benz Targets Japan's Affluent Executives With Revamped GLE SUVs: Report

Mercedes-Benz Group MBGAF MBGYY has reportedly rolled out refreshed iterations of its GLE sport-utility vehicles in Japan, aiming them squarely at senior executives and affluent business proprietors, typically in their mid-50s.

These revamped SUVs, the GLE and GLE Coupe, reportedly come with starting price tags of ¥13.8 million ($92,400) and ¥14.8 million, respectively.

Notably, these vehicles now boast advanced augmented reality-driven navigation tools, according to a report from Bloomberg.

In 2022, Mercedes brought 52,391 vehicles to Japan, making it the leading importer of vehicles, the report noted, citing the Japan Automobile Importers Association.

Speaking at the Tokyo launch event, Kasumi Oku, a spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz Japan Co., shared that SUVs represent between 35% and 40% of the brand's overall sales in the country.

The report added that the carmaker recently introduced updated versions of its CLA and GLA vehicles to the Japanese market.
