Manhattan To JFK Airport In Seven Minutes - Joby Plans To Make It Possible From 2025

Joby Aviation Inc JOBY, a developer of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for commercial passenger service, performed an exhibition flight in New York City, marking the first-ever electric air taxi flight in the city.

The occasion also marks the first time Joby has flown in an urban setting.

The aircraft was flown on Sunday, November 12, from Downtown Heliport in Manhattan.

Joby previously announced through its partnership with Delta Air Lines, Inc. DAL that it expects New York to be one of its early launch markets after receiving certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The company plans to offer fast, quiet journeys using its piloted, four-passenger electric aircraft, which has zero operating emissions.

"By electrifying one of the most famous heliports in the world, New York is demonstrating global leadership in the adoption of electric air travel," said Founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt.

Joby's aircraft can fly up to 100 miles on a single charge, covering 99% of all trips taken today across New York City's five boroughs.

Travel through Joby's air taxi can reduce travel time from Manhattan to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) from more than an hour to seven minutes.

Joby expects to launch its commercial passenger service in 2025.

Price Action: JOBY shares are trading higher by 3.48% at $5.65 premarket on the last check Tuesday.
