Airbus SE EADSY inked a pact with Ethiopian Airlines Group as the Ethiopian flagship carrier plans to add 11 additional Airbus A350-900s to its existing fleet.
The latest agreement takes Ethiopian Airlines' total order book and commitment for the A350 to 33, including four A350-1000s.
The signing of the MoU took place at the Dubai Airshow in the presence of Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew and Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, Christian Scherer.
Airbus's deal follows the recent setback from Emirates at the Dubai Airshow, where the UAE-based airline reportedly ruled out an immediate contract to purchase Airbus A350-1000 jets.
The event in Dubai was largely influenced by Airbus's main competitor, Boeing Company BA, attracting substantial orders from regional airlines, including Emirates.
In comparison, Airbus secured agreements: a contract with EgyptAir for 10 A350 aircraft and a deal with airBaltic for the A220 models.
Ethiopian Airlines has placed an order with Boeing for 20 737-8 short-haul aircraft as well as 11 787-9 Dreamliners, with options to extend the order to 67 aircraft.
The A350 has won over 1,000 orders from leading carriers from around the globe.
Price Action: EADSY shares traded lower by 0.88% to $35.53 on the last check Wednesday.
