Honda Motor Co., Ltd. HMC has announced the launch of its new N-VAN e, a mini-electric vehicle (EV) specifically designed for commercial use, which will start selling in Japan on October 10, 2024.
This model integrates advanced electric vehicle technology into the gasoline-powered N-VAN, which is known for its versatility in both commercial and recreational sectors.
The N-VAN e: maintains the features of its predecessor, like the expansive cargo space afforded by its flat, low floor and high ceiling, along with a significant opening on the passenger side facilitated by the absence of a center pillar.
Furthermore, the new model introduces enhancements specific to electric vehicles, such as an output function for power and a quieter cabin environment.
Priced at ¥2.44 million ($15,550), this model is part of Honda’s strategy to achieve 40% of its global sales from electric and fuel cell vehicles by 2030, reported Bloomberg.

The design of the N-VAN e: incorporates a large-capacity battery and a compact eAxle. This setup, along with a centralized layout of high-voltage components, maximizes the available space, ensuring that the vehicle does not compromise on its key offering of a large cargo area, crucial for its commercial utility.
The vehicle boasts a practical range of 245 km (152 miles) on a single charge according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC), making it ideal for delivery services.
It supports a charging time of approximately 4.5 hours with a standard 6.0 kW charger and about 30 minutes with a 50 kW fast charger.
The integrated cooling and heating system for the battery ensures optimal performance and longevity, mitigating the effects of extreme temperatures on charging times and range, particularly beneficial during the colder months.
In addition, Honda is looking to boost its electrification goals, with plans to collaborate with Mitsubishi Corp. MTSUY on battery technologies through their joint venture ALTNA Co., launching next month.
Price Action: HMC shares closed higher by 1.24% at $32.71 on Wednesday.
