Thailand’s consumer protection agency has reportedly received approximately 70 complaints following its investigation into the aggressive discounting practices of BYD Co., Ltd. BYDDY and its dealers, which has led some customers to believe they paid more than necessary for their Chinese electric vehicles.
During the opening of its inaugural Southeast Asian factory this week in Thailand, BYD Chief Executive Wang Chuanfu received guidance from Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, Reuters reported.
In their meeting on Friday, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of effectively managing customer expectations regarding pricing and ensuring the protection of local buyers.

According to a government spokesman, Wang provided assurances that future pricing would be fair and that affected customers would receive assistance, Reuters added.
The government launched its investigation into BYD’s dealers following a complaint alleging that a sales representative had falsely claimed a car’s price would increase after a discount campaign ended, only for the dealership to subsequently reduce prices further instead.
On social media, several BYD owners in Thailand expressed frustration that aggressive discounting by the world’s largest EV manufacturer had left them feeling dissatisfied and unfairly treated.
Meanwhile, Denza, the premium brand of BYD, has reportedly unveiled interior details of the Z9GT, a new model that is expected to go on sale at the end of the year.
The Denza Z9GT has three screens in the front, including a horizontal center screen, as well as an instrument screen and a screen for the front passenger, CnEV Post reported, citing a video Denza released today.
It has an on-board refrigerator in both the front and rear, a feature increasingly valued by car companies in the competitive Chinese electric vehicle (EV) market.
