OpenAI said its AI agent Operator is now being launched for ChatGPT Pro users in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the U.K., and in most regions where ChatGPT is accessible.

Operator, which was launched in January was initially available in the U.S. for subscribers of OpenAI’s $200 per month ChatGPT Pro tier.

The AI agent utilizes a “Computer-Using Agent” framework, combining GPT -4’s vision abilities with enhanced reasoning through reinforcement learning, enabling it to engage with graphical user interfaces (GUIs).

Shortly after its release, a user noted a limitation in Operator's news site access, prompting Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO, to acknowledge the issue and promise a swift fix.

OpenAI mentioned that Operator has the ability to “see” through screenshots and “interact” by simulating mouse and keyboard actions, allowing it to carry out tasks on the web without the need for custom API integrations.

Recently, BofA analyst pointed to OpenAI’s demonstration of Operator which shows the AI agent ordering food from Instacart using a recipe to add each ingredient to the shopping cart.

The collaborations with Uber, Instacart and DoorDash are in the early stages and BofA analyst expects the possibility of long-term partnerships allowing for more streamlined and/or additional services offered.

OpenAI said that efforts are ongoing to make Operator accessible in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.

The market is highly competitive, with companies like Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit developing agents capable of executing similar functions, reported TechCrunch.

Meanwhile, Google’s project is currently on a waitlist, Anthropic provides access to its agent interface through an API, and Rabbit’s action model is exclusive to users who own its device, per the report.

Last week, OpenAI said it is planning to simplify its AI products by discontinuing the standalone ‘o3’ model and that the forthcoming GPT-4.5, internally referred to as Orion, will be the final non-chain-of-thought model.

Recently, billionaire Elon Musk led group of investors proposed a $97.4 billion acquisition bid. However, OpenAI rejected the proposal and is said to be considering to grant special voting rights to avoid future unsolicited take over bids.
