Applied UV Inc. AUVI, a company with a focus on the development and acquisition of disinfection technologies, has recently added Scientific Air Management to its list of acquisitions.

Scientific Air Management’s core product, the Scientific Air S400, is stated to be a 3rd-party certified machine used to achieve laboratory-verified, full-room air disinfection in minutes. Since 2015, high-profile facilities like New York University Medical Center, University of Rochester Medical Center and the federal Veterans Affairs hospital system have used this technology. Applied UV believes that this acquisition strengthens its foothold in the healthcare industry and has the potential to infiltrate other markets, too.

Applied UV has been accumulating an impressive portfolio of disinfection technologies to meet its various target markets. Applied UV’s subsidiary Sterilumen, for example, has cleverly integrated the Data Driven Disinfection methodology into the bottom of hospital mirrors to combat healthcare-acquired infections caused by sinks and drains.

Meanwhile, the acquisition of KES Science & Technology Inc., a high-quality humidity system integrator, has applications suited for major groceries such as Walmart Inc. WLMT, Costco Wholesale Corp. COST and Loblaw Cos. Ltd.

Airocide, another recent acquisition, boasts a string of filterless air purifiers that were created in tandem with and for NASA. They further extend Applied UV’s potential applications to wineries, schools, commercial offices, etc. and allergy-ridden environments.

With this recent acquisition, Applied UV addresses what it believes is one of the most prevalent, yet overlooked, methods for pathogen travel — air. While the company designed the product with hospitals in mind, any individual or corporation that needs a sterilized room is a potential customer.

Given these observations, some investors may be wondering: How, and how well, does the product work?

The Scientific Air S400: A Look at the Data

“Airborne disinfection is critical to all areas of our facility,” writes Dr. Dennis M. Jacobs of Coastal Carolina Hospital of Tenet Healthcare Corp. THC. “We have had total success with the Scientific Air products in managing all types of air-quality issues from office space, laboratories, public and clinical areas where we were concerned for the welfare of our patients, visitors and staff.”

Aside from a glowing testimonial, 3rd-party tests under Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines have shown highly promising empirical findings. The data shows that the S400 kills 99.9995% of airborne virus surrogates, 99.9999% bacteria airborne surrogates and 99.99% of airborne mold surrogates.

Hospitals report reductions in viable airborne pathogens and declines in nonviable particulates, including the elimination of odor and volatile organic compounds.

The idea behind the S400 arises from the shortcomings of the high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) system, which is the industry standard. Applied UV claims that because this system has a limited ability to stop the smallest of viral pathogens, successful healthcare facilities are turning toward UV-based, germ-killing technology like Scientific Air S400.

Aside from its efficiency, Applied UV claims that the Scientific Air retails at ⅓ the price of leading competitors, uses as little energy as a ceiling fan and comes with a 5-year warranty from the manufacturer — and that other machines with similar efficiencies are typically twice as large and 3 times as expensive as the Scientific Air S400.

As the new omicron variant spreads, the world is reminded of the ongoing fight between human life and harmful pathogens — a fight that affects the lives of billions around the globe. With this recent acquisition, Applied UV may provide businesses and citizens alike with the means to a cleaner and safer future.
