Tides keep on shifting in the EV universe. Last Thursday, General Motors GM has revealed it will be following its Detroit peer, Ford Motor F in making an agreement with Tesla Inc TSLA to access its electric vehicle-charging infrastructure across North America. Today, a pioneer manufacturer of state-of-the art pickup tonneau cover manufacturer whose products hold a big EV promise, Worksport Ltd WKSP, revealed it will be reallocating its headquarters to the company’s West Seneca, NY facility to turbocharge its operations.
GM Follows Ford’s Footsteps As It Enters The Tesla Charging Universe
As of 2025, Ford and GM will be integrating Tesla charging tech into their next-generation EVs. Someone might say that Tesla has fueled an EV charging standards war, but just like when Tesla started discounting prices at the beginning of the year, there’s a much bigger picture in question and it’s all about accelerating the global EV shift.
Turbocharging The World’s EV Transition
Tesla Superchargers use a proprietary plug design, NACS, which stands for the North American Charging Standard. Other EVs and charging stations in the U.S. use the CCS plug standard, which stands for Combined Charging System. Currently, Tesla EVs can use CCS chargers with an adapter, but only Tesla EVs can use NACS chargers. With Tesla’s adapters, Ford and GM vehicles will be able to use Tesla’s supercharging network. When announcing the deal with GM, Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla senior director of charging infrastructure, stated that providing every EV owner with access to reliable charging is at the core of Tesla’s mission. Unarguably, the charging infrastructure is the prerequisite for global EV adoption.
Worksport’s HQ Shift To The U.S.
Worksport is entering a new era of turbocharged growth with its strategic HQ shift. By moving its headquarters from Ontario, Canada to the company’s 220,000 square-foot facility in West Seneca, NY, Worksport will be able to fuel its growth in many ways, from its strategy to its efficient execution. This geographic move is a strategic and transformative leap.
Last year, Worksport has partnered with the Hyundai America Technical Center to test its Solis solar tonneau cover and COR portable energy storage system on Hyundai Santa Cruz pickups. These two revolutionary products hold a big promise to the EV world. Last year, Workport announced that Solis will be able to generate 650 watts of power by simply being parked in the sun while COR energy system will come with a standard capacity of 1,500 Wh. Last week, Worksport proudly revealed it has fully redesigned and improved the COR system under the leadership of Dr. Rafael Olivera. Worksport has enhanced both the interface and increased the power capacity from 2kW to 3kW. Once Worksport’s proprietary SOLIS tonneau cover and COR come to lives across the globe, CEO Steven Rossi promises that no workplaces and campsites will be the same. Samples of Worksport’s tonneau covers have already been approved by its U.S. customers, equipment has been received at the N.Y. facility and a highly skilled workforce has been hired. Worksport will be soon announcing an update regarging the anticipated production launch of SOLIS as it finalizes its proprietary COR system.
