Easter Might Be The New Christmas For Some Companies

Christmas and the holiday season are synonymous with gift-giving — which means consumers are digging into their wallets and going shopping.

Ahead of the long Easter weekend, retailers and department stores are now trying to convince consumers that this holiday is much more than just chocolate bunnies.

Target Corporation TGT is advertising an Easter basket with Barbie dolls and Nerf guns, according to a Bloomberg report. CVS Health Corp CVS is taking their Easter products a step further by selling "Finding Dory" bubble makers, and rival Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc WBA is selling Easter eggs and baskets with tiny Trolls and Hello Kitty dolls.

Include Toys In Your Easter Basket

While Christmas is the undisputed king of gift giving holidays, consumers are still expected to spend more than $18 billion this Easter season. Rosales Montalvo, a spokeswoman for the toy company JAKKS Pacific, Inc. JAKK, explained to Bloomberg that mothers "like the idea of adding other things" such as toys to an Easter basket so that it "isn't completely filled with candies and chocolates."

In fact, consumers are expected to spend more this Easter holiday than they did during Valentine's Day. Only Christmas, back-to-school and Mother's Day will trail Easter in terms of importance for retailers.

Also working in retailers' favor: Warmer weather is expected over the coming days, and this could prompt consumers to venture out shopping.
