AMC CEO Argues Why It Can Thrive In The Streaming TV Environment

How will content creators like AMC Networks Inc AMCX fare in the era of streaming TV and video content? According to CEO Josh Sapan, there's little if any reason to worry.

Speaking as a guest on CNBC, Sapan said his company is in fact "perfectly designed" to thrive in a TV era characterized by low bundle packages or online streaming as AMC accounts for four of the top 10 TV shows. AMC also offers only five channels as opposed to other major players that offer as much 15, which means their cost to consumers are lower.

"We have been preparing for a world that is more digital, that's a little slimmer, and where people operate with more discretion and don't just take what comes down the pipe," Sapan said. "So we actually think that our size and genetics serve as actually perfectly for where we are going."

Simple Strategy

Some reports suggest the cord cutting trend isn't as strong as previously assumed.

Sapan believes the future of TV will consist of many conventional cable providers along with existing and new streaming and online offerings. Consumers may be in a better position to pick and chose exactly what they want and not pay for what they don't want, which means AMC needs to continue focusing on creating some of the best content on TV.
