"Wintel" Winning Today

Shares of Microsoft MSFT and Intel Corporation INTC, affectionately known as "Wintel" are jumping today, with a gain of over 1% for Mr. Softie and a large move for the world's largest chip maker, up more than 3%. Shares of Microsoft have been performing well recently, and there was speculation earlier in the week that CEO Steve Ballmer may be stepping down, which caused the stock to spike in the last minutes of trading on Tuesday. At last check, shares were up 28 cents to $25.90, a gain of 1.09%‎. Intel shares are soaring as the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, or SOX, is also rallying. The SOX is an index of semiconductor stocks. Semiconductors are an important measure of the economy, as the chips are used in almost everything. At last check, shares of Intel were up 69 cents to $22.08, a gain of 3.25% on 28 million shares.
