Philip Emond Named as CIGNA's Chief Information Officer

David M. Cordani, president and chief executive officer of CIGNA Corporation CI, today announced the appointment of Philip Emond to the position of executive vice president and Chief Information Officer of CIGNA's U.S. operations, effective October 8, 2010. Emond, currently senior vice president of CIGNA Information Technology, will succeed Michael Woeller, who will retire next month after serving as executive vice president and Chief Information Officer of CIGNA's U.S. operations since October 2007. “For the past three years, Mike has ably led CIGNA's Information Technology Division. During that time, the technology organization has evolved significantly to better meet the changing needs of today's market, the team has been strengthened, and succession has been proactively planned – part of which included adding Phil to the team in 2008. From the start, Phil has demonstrated a deep understanding of technology innovation in the healthcare industry and has shown strong leadership qualities, passion for our customers and a focus on consistently delivering results,” Cordani said. “In naming Phil to this role, CIGNA will continue to build on the solid foundation Mike has established in partnership with Phil and the entire CIGNA technology team.”
