Gene Munster On The Potential Of The iTunes TV Pass (AAPL)

iTunes TV Pass does not exist…yet. But if Gene Munster's prediction is accurate, we could one day have access to a new Apple Inc. AAPL service that would have the potential to do for television what the standard iTunes did for music. “[The] one thing that doesn't get talked about is North Carolina and the [Apple] data center and what's going on there,” Munster told Benzinga during a recent interview. “A lot of people just gloss over it as kind of an add-on to their existing mobile business. But it has the opportunity to be something that could fundamentally change television.” That change, Munster said, could come from something he calls the iTunes Pass, “which basically offers a la carte cable, a la carte content subscription.” “It sounds like an oxymoron, but for you to pick and choose which cable channels you want, but you get it over the Internet,” he continues. “That's one of the things that not a lot of people are talking about that we think is an important part of the story over the next many years as Apple moves into the television [business] and gets into an integrated, all-in-one TV, which is very different from their strategy today.” To hear more from the Piper Jaffray analyst – including his take on Amazon AMZN vs. eBay EBAY – don't miss Benzinga's full interview with Gene Munster.
