Time Warner Cable Comments on FCC Statement Regarding Intention To Open Retransmission Consent Rulemaking

Time Warner TWC: “We applaud today's announcement that the Commission will issue a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to consider changes to the outdated retransmission consent rules. A broad array of stakeholders including Time Warner Cable and other video distributors, public interest organizations, and independent programmers have submitted extensive evidence showing that broadcasters' demands for dramatic fee increases and their recurring blackout threats are causing significant harm to the public. We are gratified that the Commission has committed to responding to these problems. Our customers are fed up with broadcasters' attempts to use them as human shields, and we are hopeful that the Commission will adopt new mechanisms to prevent such conduct. We stand ready to assist the Commission in exploring a wide range of potential solutions to ensure that the retransmission consent system is reformed in a manner that better serves consumers.”
