FirstEnergy Announces Perry Plant Begins Refueling

FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. FE, announced its Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Perry, Ohio, shut down earlier today for scheduled refueling and maintenance. Two hundred eighty-four of the 748 fuel assemblies will be replaced and numerous safety inspections will be conducted while the unit is off line. Preventative maintenance to ensure continued safe and reliable operations will be performed, including replacing several control rod blades, rewinding the generator and testing more than 100 valves. Some 1,000 temporary contractors and FENOC employees from the company's other nuclear plants will supplement the Perry workforce during the outage.
