Following the news that workers at a Target TGT store in Long Island voted down a unionization effort on Friday, Molly Snyder of Target's media relations department told Benzinga that, “Our emphasis is on creating a workplace environment where our team members don't want or need union representation. Target works to create an environment of mutual trust between Target and our team members, an environment that promotes listening, responding to concerns of team members and always giving honest feedback. Target believes in solving issues and concerns by working together with the help and input of all team members.”
Derek Jenkins, senior vice president of stores in the Northeast region, released a statement to say that, “At Target, it has always been our goal to have a culture where our team members don't want or need union representation. We believe that our team members' actions yesterday spoke louder than any words I can share with you now.”
“The Valley Stream Target store is filled with a team of dedicated, enthusiastic team members,” said Jenkins. “We want to thank the team for their faith and confidence in Target. We look forward to continuing to work with all team members in a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation.”
“Target is committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful culture,” he continued. “We believe in solving issues and concerns by working together with the help and input of all team members. Our team has embraced that philosophy by rejecting union representation. We are pleased that today's results mean that we're going to be able to continue to work directly with our team members to solve problems and make Target an even better place. We are proud to live and work in this community and to be the kind of company where team members want to work and our guests want to shop.”
