Nearly Half of Smartphone Buyers Want an iPhone 4

Google GOOG has many things to brag about these days, but smartphone desirability isn't one of them. ChangeWave Research reports that as of June 2011, 46% of prospective smartphone buyers want the device that Apple AAPL is manufacturing. This shouldn't come as too big of a surprise to anyone; despite the hundreds of thousands of Android phones that Google claims to activate each day, Apple is still the market leader – especially in America. No other smartphone manufacturer has been able to obtain a similar degree of hype and excitement for its products. ChangeWave Research also reported on the popularity of Research in Motion RIMM, and that's where things get really interesting. Less than two years ago, BlackBerry still had 18% of the prospective smartphone buying market. At that time, Android had roughly 21%. As of June 2011, Android jumped to 32%, while BlackBerry dropped to a meager 4%. Via: AppleInsider Follow me @LouisBedigian
