Flowserve Receives Contract for Singapore Desalination Plant

Flowserve Corporation FLS today announced a contract from Hyflux Ltd. to provide energy recovery devices for the Tuaspring Desalination Plant in Singapore. Under the agreement, Flowserve will manufacture 68 CALDER Dual Work Exchange Energy Recovery (DWEERTM) units used in the yet-to-be constructed plant to recover energy from the high-pressure brine stream of the seawater reverse osmosis process. When operational, the DWEER units are designed to achieve an efficiency of greater than 95 percent and help reduce the energy demands for the membrane feed pumps by up to 60 percent. "Flowserve was selected for this project because of our position as a leader in the growing desalination industry, the low total cost of ownership of the CALDER DWEER technology and the strong working relationship we developed with Hyflux during Singapore`s first desalination project," said Tom Ferguson, president, Flowserve Flow Solutions Group. "The global demand for fresh water continues to increase. We are excited that Flowserve technology can help reduce energy consumption and allow our customers to more efficiently produce clean drinking water." Booked in the third quarter of 2011, this is the second major order for Flowserve DWEER units from Hyflux in the last year. In August 2010, Flowserve announced an order for DWEER energy recovery systems for the Salalah Independent Water and Power Plant (Salalah IWPP) in Oman.
