Shares of Lufkin Industries Inc LUFK dropped about 1.4% after the company announced its plans to buy privately held Canadian firm Quinn's Oilfield Supply Ltd for around $303 million. The deal is expected to close before year's end.
Shares of Ford Motor Company F fell about 3.7% after the company reported a 7% y/y drop in its vehicle sales in China in August. Ford's August China sales came in at 34,916 units, up 8% from July. For the January-August period, sales by Ford and its joint ventures climbed 11% to 341,746 units.
Shares of Fairchild Semiconductor International Inc FCS dropped about 0.7% after the company cut its sales forecast for the third quarter. Fairchild Semiconductor now projects sales of $400 million to $410 million, versus its previous outlook of $433 million to $446 million. It expects adjusted gross margin to be 36% to 36.5%, versus its earlier forecast of 36.5% to 36.9%.
Shares of Walgreen Co WAG fell about 1.4% after the company reported a 5.6% rise in its same-store sales in August. Analysts were expecting August same-store sales to climb 5.3%. Walgreen's same-store front-end sales surged 4.8%, while same-pharmacy sales jumped 6.1%. For the quarter ended August 31, Walgreen's sales surged 6.4% to $17.94 billion. However, analysts were expecting sales of $17.86 billion.
