Did You Know That 95% Of Dunkin' Donuts Locations Are In Eastern United States?

Dunkin Brands Group Inc DNKN, the parent company of Dunkin' Donuts (and Baskin-Robbins), isn't being 100 percent accurate in its slogan "America Runs on Dunkin'."

According to a presentation released by Dunkin' Brands' management, a more accurate slogan could be "America's North East Coast Runs on Dunkin'," since the relatively small region accounts for 4,099 of the total 8,629 stores across the entire country.

Ninety-five (95) percent of all restaurants are located within the Eastern United States. Just 412 stores are located on the West Coast.

Naturally, Dunkin' Brands has identified the West Coast as an untapped market, and the story has been largely communicated to the investment community. The company announced in 2014 the locations for its first ever stores in California.

"Today we continue to celebrate our highly anticipated expansion to California, starting with the opening of our new restaurants in Modesto and Santa Monica," said Paul Twohig, president of Dunkin' Donuts United States and Canada, and Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins Europe and Latin America. "Californians have eagerly and enthusiastically awaited Dunkin' Donuts' arrival, and we are proud to bring our high-quality beverages and baked goods as well as the fast and friendly service we're famous for to the state."

Here is a sample of some other notable developments in the West Coast region:

• August 11, 2016: Dunkin' Brands announced it will open nine Dunkin' Donuts stores and one multi-brand unit with Baskin-Robbins over the next few years.
• September 27, 2016: Dunkin' Donuts announced its first store in Phoenix, Arizona, will open in 2017.
• December 8, 2016: Dunkin' Donuts plans to open 65 new restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth area to add to its more than 110 locations across the state of Texas.
