WikiLeaks Tuesday morning released a flood of documents purportedly received from a former government hacker. The documents detail a far-reaching cyber hacking CIA program designed for domestic espionage.
The Wall Street Journal later reported a source has confirmed that some of the information contained in the leaks "does pertain to tools that the CIA uses to hack computers and other devices."
The source went on to comment that disclosing the info may jeopardize ongoing intelligence-gathering operations.
Among the revelations made available in the leaked documents, those gaining particular attention include the CIA hacking Apple Inc AAPL's iPhones and Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOGL's Android smartphone operating system to turn their cameras and microphones on to collect a target's geolocation, audio and text communications.
The CIA declined to comment to WSJ on the leaks.
