SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service would soon get the donate option, Elon Musk said on Twitter on Monday.
What Happened: Chipper Cash CEO Ham Serunjogi took to Twitter to commend Starlink for the initial speed and ease of set-up. He also sounded out his desire to bring Starlink to remote and rural areas of Uganda, the country of his origin.
“Most excited about its potential to bring internet access to remote & rural areas that lack infrastructure,” he said, adding that he would be glad to commit money to donate Starlink to schools and hospitals in Uganda.

Musk then quote-tweeted Serunjogi’s tweet and asked whether there are others who would want to donate Starlinks to places in need. He also said, “we will add a donate option to Starlink.”

Why It’s Important: Starlink was in news recently after a report said SpaceX has written to Pentagon, asking it to foot the bill for providing Starlink services to Ukraine. Musk had previously said Starlink is expending about $80 million for providing connectivity in Ukraine, adding that it could go up to $100 million by the end of the year.
Musk said in October that Starlink is still far from cash flow positive. While noting that all low-Earth orbit communications constellations to date have gone bankrupt, Musk added that any support is “super helpful.”
