Initial Jobless Claims: 214,000, a decrease of 12,000 from the previous week's revised level, according to data the Labor Department released on Thursday.
The previous week's level was revised down by 2,000 from 228,000 to 226,000.
The number came in well below average economist estimates of 235,000.
The 4-week moving average was 212,250, an increase of 1,250 from the previous week's revised average.
Continuing jobless claims of 1.385 million vs. the consensus of 1.375 million and 1.368 million prior.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.0% for the week ending Oct. 8, higher than 0.9% last week.
