United States law enforcement officials will announce actions on Monday targeting alleged criminal activity by a nation-state.
What To Know: Attorney General Merrick Garland is set to hold a news conference Monday afternoon centered around U.S. action targeting "malign influence schemes and alleged criminal activity" by a "nation-state actor," the Department of Justice said, according to a Reuters report.
The Department of Justice didn't provide any additional details about the case, including which country or entity is being targeted.
Garland will discuss "significant national security cases addressing malign influence schemes and alleged criminal activity by a nation-state actor in the United States" with deputy attorney general Lisa Monaco and assistant attorney general for national security Matthew Olsen, as well as with FBI director Christopher Wray at 1:30 p.m. ET.

The announcement comes nearly two weeks before the 2022 midterm elections on Nov. 8. It's not clear if the schemes involved are related. Last year, the U.S. imposed sanctions on Iran over attempts to influence the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
