Twitter’s owner and CEO Elon Musk and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) have been exchanging jibes on Twitter.

What Happened: Musk, also the CEO of Tesla Inc TSLA and SpaceX, was responding to a tweet from Ocasio-Cortez who said, “Lmao at a billionaire earnestly trying to sell people on the idea that "free speech" is actually an $8/mo subscription plan.”

Musk said that her response was “appreciated” and that she should now pay $8.

In a separate tweet, Musk posted a thinking face emoji and shared a “Periwinkle Supporter Crew Sweatshirt” on sale on Ocasio-Cortez’s “Official AOC Team Shop” for $58.

Why It Matters: Musk slapped a price tag of $8 on Twitter verification earlier and said “Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bulls**t.”

The New York representative asked Thursday why should people pay $8 for their app just to get it "bricked" after they say something Musk doesn't like.

Ocasio-Cortez said it doesn't seem "very free speechy" to her. She suggested that the functionality on her app were restricted following her criticism of Musk's plan.
