While Tesla Inc TSLA vehicles have some driver assist and even self-driving capabilities, the cars can't avoid all accidents.
A Tesla driver's recent run-in with a train showed the vehicles could be capable of keeping occupants safe in the event of a collision.
In a story shared by Teslarati, the driver of a Tesla Model 3 was stopped on the tracks when the driver tried to get across the tracks before an oncoming train arrived.
The accident occurred on Nov. 2 and involved a Capitol Corridor train crashing into the Model 3 on the 600 block of Martin Avenue in Santa Clara, California. Witnesses told NBC Bay Area the driver got out of their car to move the arm guard and drive off the tracks, but after they got back into their car, it was too late and the car was struck by the train.
The vehicle was smashed into pieces as seen on the video provided by local news. The driver of the car got away with minimal injuries and no one on the train sustained injuries.
Perhaps if this person were using Tesla's Full Self-Driving Beta software, the accident could have been avoided altogether.
