Trump Vs. Desantis: Glimpse Of Potential 2024 GOP Primary Match-Up Seen In Florida On Sunday

Former President Donald Trump and Florida's Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis held parallel rallies in Florida on Sunday, giving a glimpse of a potential 2024 GOP primary match-up.

What Happened:  Trump held back from taking potshots at DeSantis on Sunday at a rally in support of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) who is up for re-election.

Trump said at the event held at the Miami-Dade County fairgrounds, "You're going to reelect the wonderful, the great friend of mine Marco Rubio to the United States Senate and you are going to reelect Ron DeSantis as your governor," reported Politico.

DeSantis, who began the first of three separate events, on Sunday did not publicly criticize Trump either, according to Politico.

Instead, the Florida governor lambasted President Joe Biden and said he had been " battling him the whole time."

"Nov. 8 is really the first time that every American gets to go to the polls and just tell Joe Biden what you think of his policies. You can send a loud message on that and I think he needs to hear that," DeSantis reportedly said.

Why It Matters: Trump and DeSantis are considered contenders for the 2024 presidential nomination. Their relationship has turned sour of late.

The feud between the two forced Florida Republicans to declare what side they may take, noted Politico.

State Senate President Wilton Simpson, running for the job of Agriculture Commissioner, was seen on the stage with Trump. Rep. Party of Florida Chair Joe Gruters was also reportedly present at the rally.

The holding of fire by Trump and DeSantis on Sunday marks a departure from their recent acrimony. The former president even gave DeSantis a new nickname at a rally in Pennsylvania.
