Apple Hires Facebook Veteran as Information Chief; More Departures Likely

  • Apple Inc AAPL has hired a startup founder and former Meta Platforms Inc META Facebook executive to run its information systems group after departures in that department, Bloomberg reported.
  • Timothy Campos will lead the Information Systems and Technology department, which handles the infrastructure behind Apple's online services, customer support, and website. 
  • Apple refers to the operation as its "nerve center" because it lets employees, suppliers, and customers stay connected.

  • Mary Demby, the current information chief, will retire after 2022. 
  • Her deputy, vice president of software engineering David Smoley, will retire after a three-year stint.
  • Campos held the chief information officer role at Facebook from 2010 to 2016. Most recently, he co-founded Woven, a popular calendar app Slack Technologies Inc acquired in 2021, which Salesforce, Inc CRM later purchased.
  • Apple's chief privacy officer, vice president of industrial design, and head of the company's online retail store will also depart. 
  • Apple also parted ways with its vice president of procurement following his appearance in a crass TikTok video.
  • Price Action: DIS shares traded higher by 3.92% at $140.17 in the premarket on the last check Thursday.
