Pence Blames Trump Of 'Endangering' Him, 'Everyone At Capitol' During Jan 6. Riots: 'He Decided To Be Part Of The Problem'

Former President Donald Trump's words on Jan.6 "angered" his Vice President Mike Pence who described them as "reckless."

What Happened: Pence touched on a tweet by Trump during the Jan. 6 insurrection in an interview with ABC's David Muir on Sunday.

“I mean, the president’s words were reckless. It was clear he decided to be part of the problem."

In the tweet, Trump said that Pence didn't have the "courage to do what should have been done."

Pence said that at the time he was near his daughter and he told her, "It doesn’t take courage to break the law. It takes courage to uphold the law."

The former vice president was at the Capitol at the time. The legislature was certifying the 2020 Electoral College results when rioters marched onto the building forcing him and others to seek shelter.

"The president’s words that day at the rally [before the riot] endangered me and my family and everyone at the Capitol building," said Pence, according to ABC.

Why It Matters: Pence's interview comes at a time when he is releasing his memoir titled "So Help Me God."

Pence makes revelations surrounding Jan.6 in the book and describes a call between him and the then-president in which Trump calls him a "wimp."

Trump apparently chided Pence for his honesty and said, "Hundreds of thousands are gonna hate your guts. . . . People are gonna think you’re stupid."
