Trump's Former National Security Adviser Calls Him 'Old And Tired,' Praises This Potential 2024 Challenger

Zinger Key Points
  • Trump has been steadily losing support from within his party, according to his former national security adviser.
  • Trump's endorsement may not produce the desired results for candidates, adds the former White House official.

Donald Trump may have officially launched his 2024 presidential campaign, but one of his former White House advisors seems less than supportive of his decision.

What Happened: Following the Nov. 8 midterm elections, which failed to sweep in a red wave as many Republicans had hoped, many people have “switched Trump off in their brain,” the ex-president’s former national security adviser John Bolton said in an interview with Guardian.

Although people love Trump, fears that he may lose the general election and also bring down several Republican candidates along with him have been on the rise, the report said.

Bolton reportedly said his internal polling showed that Trump’s supporter base has been declining steadily over the past two years.

Former Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Attorney General William Barr, U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie have all recently overtly or subtly hinted that Trump has become an “electoral liability,” the report said.

DeSantis The Frontrunner: Although Pence, Pompeo and Christie are considered potential candidates for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has emerged as the frontrunner.

DeSantis was re-elected on Nov. 8 with a big majority, Bolton reportedly said. “A lot of people look to him as the next-generation candidate. That’s one of Trump’s biggest problems – his act is old and tired now,” he added.

Trump’s endorsement, though valuable to a candidate in the primary, “trumpeting yourself as a Trump-endorsed candidate is poisonous in the general election,” Bolton said.
