'Alexa, Thank My Driver:' Say That And Amazon Will Tip Your Delivery Driver $5 To Show Appreciation This Holiday

Amazon Inc. AMZN has rolled out a new feature that will allow customers to thank their delivery drivers through their Alexa devices this holiday season. 

What Happened: On Wednesday, Amazon announced its this new promotional feature. Customers can now say, "Alexa, thank my driver," and the driver of their most recent delivery will receive a notification regarding the same. 

Drivers who receive the first one million notifications of gratitude will be awarded $5 per thank you. Furthermore, the first five delivery drivers who receive the most number of thank yous will get a $10,000 bonus in addition to the $10,000 donated to a charity of their choice.

Amazon is celebrating the milestone of 15 billion packages delivered in the U.S. However, the company says for drivers, it's more than just delivery. "They form relationships with customers, provide support to the community in tough moments, and sometimes play the role of the unexpected hero," the retail giant stated.

"Now, we'll provide customers with the opportunity to say thanks each and every day—with the help of Alexa."

This comes at a time when the DC Attorney General is suing Amazon for allegedly misleading consumers by using tips to cover couriers' base pay, reported Bloomberg. Amazon refuted the allegations saying the "lawsuit involves a practice we changed three years ago," according to the Bloomberg report.
