A poll revealed that former President Donald Trump’s calls for Constitution election rules to be set aside should make him ineligible to run for the White House in 2024.
What Happened: Results from the Quinnipiac University Poll, first noted on The Hill, showed that 51 percent say Trump should be disqualified from running for president again after he called to terminate the Constitution.
“Is it a ripple of doubt or a growing tidal wave of rejection? Former President Trump's post-presidential announcement numbers are heading in the wrong direction,” said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.
“You would have to go back at least six years to find less support for him from Republican, independent and American voters as a whole."
Why It Matters: Trump announced that he would run for president for the third time on Nov. 15.
Another recent poll asked Americans who would they choose between in a hypothetical election featuring Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and Trump.
The poll indicated that voters would prefer DeSantis by 52% to Trump’s 38%. Republican voters gave DeSantis an 86% favorable rating compared with 74% for Trump.
