Thai Princess, In Line For Throne, Stable — Prayers In Bangkok For King's Hospitalized Daughter

Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol, the daughter of the Thailand king, who collapsed last week, is "stable at one level” and is receiving support for her heart, lung and kidney, the palace said in a statement without elaborating.

What Happened: The 44-year-old, known in Thailand as Princess Bha, is the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. She fell ill on Wednesday during a military dog training session at Nakhon Ratchasima, north of capital Bangkok.

Following her collapse, she was flown to the capital, where she continues to receive intensive medical care for her heart, lungs and kidney and is under close observation.

"Her royal highness's heartbeat is controlled by medicine,” the statement said.

"The medical team has offered her royal highness medicine and equipment to support the work of her royal highness's heart, lung and kidney,” it added.

Although King Vajiralongkorn is yet to formally designate the princess as heir, her formal title of princess makes her eligible for the throne under a 1924 Palace Law of Succession and the country’s constitution.

Temples in Bangkok held prayers and senior leaders, including the prime minister, visited the hospital on Friday to wish for a quick recovery for the princess.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the palace announced that King and Queen Suthida had tested positive for COVID-19, with both reporting mild symptoms.
