Ohioans kick off the year 2023 in a big way, with legal sports betting going live since January 1. For years, Ohio has taken quite some time to materialize legal sports betting. But finally, when the new year comes around, Ohioans can place their bets in-person or online through various licensed operators.

This is excellent news for Ohioans who are already excited about starting off 2023 right by placing bets on their favorite teams and events. But what will really happen on January 1, and how will sports betting work in the state? We will analyze it below.

How will sports betting work in Ohio?

Ohio will have three types of gambling licenses that cover various types of establishments and formats for bettors.

Type A licenses are intended for mobile gambling. A total of 25 of these licenses and Ohio’s professional sports teams and existing casinos will be given priority to obtain one of these licenses.

Type B licenses are intended for brick-and-mortar locations; up to 40 may be issued.

Type C licenses are for establishments such as bars, restaurants, and lottery kiosks that want to install up to two gaming machines.

Thanks to this variety of licenses, the state will have many options to bet, and there will be something for all tastes.

What betting markets will be available?

When it comes to betting, having several markets is essential for a good gaming experience. It gives bettors more options to choose from when making decisions on where and how to place their bets. With multiple betting markets, players can explore different strategies and wager types to find the best possible outcome for their bankrolls.

Plenty of betting markets also means an increased chance of finding value in every game. Players can take advantage of various bookmakers’ odds and lines to secure the most beneficial outcomes. This makes it easier for bettors to capitalize on opportunities they may otherwise not have found with fewer markets available.

In the case of Ohio, you can bet on most betting markets; this includes professional sports, college sports, esports, auto racing, and golf. These markets will be available in apps, online sites, and physical establishments.

The only bad news is that horse racing will be limited to pari-mutuel betting at racetracks only, so fans of the sport will only be able to bet at designated establishments.

Mobile gambling is the most anticipated in Ohio

As of January 1, 2023, at 12:01 a.m. ET Ohio bettors can use mobile betting apps for the first time. This is exciting news for many Ohioans that have long been waiting to take advantage of this popular form of wagering. Mobile betting apps provide convenience and accessibility like no other.

Sports enthusiasts in Ohio can now place their bets easily wherever they are located and at any time they please. This modern service also has various features that make it easy to stay up-to-date on sports games and place bets quickly and accurately. On top of all these benefits, mobile betting apps also offer secure payment options and budgeting tools so players can manage their bankrolls effectively.

All the most popular betting apps will go live in Ohio; some already offer pre-launch promotions for bettors; for example, we recommend you check the DraftKings Ohio Promo Code for a special deal.

Bet on your favorite teams

Ohio has a rich sports heritage, and some of the country’s most popular professional sports teams call it home. The Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians, Cincinnati Reds, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Cleveland Cavaliers are just some of the beloved teams that Ohioans have grown up rooting for. These successful franchises draw a large fan base from all over Ohio and beyond.

The Browns are one of the original members of the NFL since its inception in 1920. They have had their share of ups and downs throughout their history but remain one of the most beloved football teams due to their passionate fan base and impressive record.

Professional teams in Ohio, such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cincinnati Reds, and Columbus Blue Jackets, have now been granted licenses to host on-site sportsbooks. This means that fans of these teams can now not only root for their favorite team from the stands or at home, but they can also wager on their performance with a legal and regulated sportsbook at each respective facility.
