Donald Trump is choosing from among a lineup of loyalists the person who will be his running mate in the 2024 presidential election.
What Happened: Trump and his close associates have been deliberating about names, reported The Daily Beast, citing people familiar with the matter.
All the potential running mates are reportedly women with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) being one of the names that have been discussed. Others include Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and former representative and political commentator Tulsi Gabbard.
A GOP operative told The Beast that Green can outshine the former president and she has been characterized as “Trump in heels.”
Why It Matters: Green has been a regular at Trump’s rallies and Trump has hosted her at his Bedminister Club to watch a LIV golf tournament during which the chant “MTG for VP” broke out, noted The Beast.
Green has also been in the limelight recently for her championing Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in his bid for the speakership, Vanity Fair reported.
She’s also been one of the biggest fundraisers for Republicans in the House since she won the election 2020, according to Vanity Fair.
The GOP strategist told The Beast that Trump has learned that the running mate can’t be an establishment figure like Mike Pence.
Pence meanwhile has been ambiguous about his own run for the White House in 2024 but he has not explicitly denied running.
