Such A Showoff! Boston Dynamics' Humanoid Amuses Internet With Graceful Backflip

Remember Boston Dynamics' viral YouTube video of its humanoid Atlas and dog-like robot, Spot, grooving — and backflipping — on the song "Do You Love Me?" Well, the company has shared a new video and this time, Atlas is just showing off.

What Happened: Boston Dynamics shared a video of its humanoid marvel Atlas picking up "a new set of skills" and moving swiftly while also doing a backflip that led the person recording the video to say "such a showoff."

Here's the complete video:

Boston Dynamics explained Atlas's extraordinary moves stating, "In this video, the humanoid robot manipulates the world around it: Atlas interacts with objects and modifies the course to reach its goal—pushing the limits of locomotion, sensing, and athleticism."

At the time of writing, the video had garnered 3.4 million views on Twitter and more than 1.3 million on YouTube.

Some Twitter users even ended up discussing if the last backflip was "necessary."

While one user felt though it wasn't necessary, it was "awesome," another said, "It actually was necessary."

Others were just plain happy to "drop everything" to watch the robot make dynamic moves.

Why It's Important: Boston Dynamics' robots have gained massive attention from netizens for their cutting-edge mobility and slick appearance.

In October last year, the company signed an open letter along with five others, including Clearpath Robotics, Agility Robotics and Open Robotics, pledging not to weaponize general-purpose robots.
