Alphabet Inc. GOOG GOOGL CEO Sundar Pichai shared a summary of "great research progress on Google AI" as OpenAI's chatGPT continues to amaze netizens and tech experts alike

The company blog post shared by Pichai noted that while the aforementioned tools have vast potential for "helping humans with creative tasks," they also present some concerns. For example, the technology could be used to generate harmful content, fake imagery or audio content, making it challenging to "distinguish from reality."

Why It's Important: Pichai's post comes less than a month after reports about Google declaring "code red" to deal with the prospective threat that chatGPT — an AI-powered chatbot — presents considering the technological marvel has continued to gain massive momentum online.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Microsoft Corporation MSFT is planning to launch an updated version of its search engine Bing by integrating chatGPT. The new Bing could launch as early as March

AI and Web3 expert Alex Valatis has also predicted that Microsoft could surpass rival platforms like Google, Apple and Meta on the back of OpenAI's chatGPT.
