Mr. Beast, a famous YouTuber known for pulling off outlandish stunts and business ventures, released a video in which he paid for cataract surgery for 1,000 patients.

In the video, titled “1,000 Blind People See For The First Time,” Mr. Beast — whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson — records patients' reactions after their life-changing surgery, and awards them thousands of dollars.

But, these types of surgeries could become way more common. According to Robeco’s 2023 Consumer Report, five billion people require vision correction products and services.

About half of those five billion are people who already have glasses or contacts, but will constantly need new eyewear, prescriptions and more. The other half are people currently living with untreated poor vision or other eye problems.

One reason eyecare is becoming more common is because of an increase of myopia patients, or “shortsightedness.” According to the report, about 33% of people live with myopia today, but that number is expected to increase to 52% by 2050.

Diet Pills: Another trend that Robecco outlined is the ongoing interest in weight-loss pills. Despite obesity being one of America’s major healthcare problems, only about 2% of obese patients are on any sort of weight-loss drug.

Recently, the FDA approved a weight-loss drug from Novo Nordisk NVA for first-line use. The drug not only will be used to help obese people manage their weight, but also fight off Type 2 Diabetes.
