Zinger Key Points
  • MrBeast has pledged to give away millions before he dies.
  • A recent video saw MrBeast pay for eye surgery for 1,000 people.

A new video from YouTube star MrBeast is going viral thanks to the nature of the charitable act of kindness displayed.

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, helped 1,000 blind people get cataract surgeries and thousands of dollars in cash.

The YouTuber also gifted one of the people with something extra — a new car.

What Happened: In the new video, MrBeast pays for 1,000 blind people to get cataract surgeries to help restore their sight. The video was done in partnership with See International, a non-profit eye care organization.

Surgeon and ophthalmologist Jeff Levenson, who has coordinated the “Gift of Sight” program for more than 20 years, worked with MrBeast on the video, which has 61 million views as of the time of writing.

“Half of all blindness in the world is people who need a 10-minute surgery,” Levenson says in the video.

The video features before and after footage of patients being helped in countries across the globe, including Jamaica, Honduras, Namibia, Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam and Kenya.

Satchel, one of the surgery recipients, is a teenager who was born with poor vision and lost nearly all his sight after a go-kart accident.

MrBeast surprised Satchel with an extra gift at his three-week follow-up vision appointment.

“I have a surprise for you, old,” MrBeast told Satchel. "Do you mind putting on a blindfold?"

Satchel is then led to the parking lot where he is presented with a "brand new Tesla."

Several of MrBeast’s friends and members of his video team drive a Tesla Model 3 that now belongs to Satchel.

Later in the video, Satchel is seen driving the Tesla Model 3 in a parking lot and telling MrBeast he can’t put into words how he feels.

Why It’s Important: MrBeast's video, while met with some criticism, may bring more attention to eye care and the surgeries that are needed to restore eyesight.

“If MrBeast can light a fire, and if we can get governmental and private support behind it, we can end half of all the blindness in the world,” Levenson said.

MrBeast touts more than 130 million subscribers on YouTube, and is among the most subscribed non-branded channels. His competition videos, giveaways and extreme challenges have earned him millions (he pledges to give away all his money before he dies).

MrBeast has often used Tesla Inc TSLA vehicles in his videos, including as prizes for giveaways. Tesla, which typically doesn't buy advertising, could be getting huge brand awareness from MrBeast thanks to his hundreds of millions of subscribers recognizing the electric-vehicle manufacturer as one of his favorite brands.

MrBeast has also offered himself up to be Tesla CEO Elon Musk's successor as head of Twitter
