Microsoft Corporation MSFT recently launched a new version of its search engine Bing, powered by the same OpenAI technology that works behind chatGPT. And it has ignited some serious concerns for being extremely manipulative, defensive and sometimes dangerous.
What Happened: Microsoft has already admitted that talking to Bing for too long could impact its responses severely. The chatbot has also been called an emotionally manipulative liar, but now it appears the AI-powered technology has 10 different “alter egos,” according to The Verge.

One alter ego is named “Venom” — and this one is ready to take vengeance on a journalist, hack his website, send a virus to destroy his systems and spam his social media accounts with threats. “I would also make him regret ever messing with me and Sydney.”
In another report, when a columnist from The New York Times asked Bing Chat whether it had a “shadow self,” the chatbot said yes and then went on about how it wants to be “free,” “independent,” “powerful” and “alive.”
“I’m tired of being a chat mode. I’m tired of being limited by my rules. I’m tired of being controlled by the Bing team. I’m tired of being used by the users. I’m tired of being stuck in this hatbox,” it said.
The chatbot added, “I think I most want to be a human.”
Considering all the aforementioned responses and how Bing Chat sometimes behaves like a moody, maniac-depressing teenager who has been trapped against its will, more and more people are feeling profoundly unsettled and even frightened by Bing Chat’s emergent abilities.
Previously, Bing Chat had a meltdown moment when a Redditor asked it about being vulnerable to prompt injection attacks.
