Microsoft Bent On Crushing Opposition To Activision Deal, Cuts Yet Another 10-Year Deal With This Semiconductor Giant

  • Microsoft Corp MSFT and NVIDIA Corp NVDA inked a 10-year deal to bring Xbox PC games to the NVIDIA GeForce NOW cloud gaming service boasting over 25 million members in over 100 countries.
  • Now gamers can stream Xbox PC titles from GeForce NOW to PCs, macOS, Chromebooks, smartphones, and other devices. 
  • The gamers can also enable Activision Blizzard PC titles, like Call of Duty, to be streamed on GeForce NOW after Microsoft acquires Activision.
  • The partnership delivers increased choice to gamers and resolves NVIDIA's concerns with Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. NVIDIA, therefore, is offering its full support for regulatory approval of the purchase.
  • The Activision Blizzard deal faced hurdles from several agencies, including the EU, U.S. FTC, and U.K. CMA, on competitive grounds. The availability of franchises such as Call of Duty on other consoles and the deal tenure raised significant concerns.
  • The deal also faced opposition from Sony Group Corp SONYAlphabet Inc's GOOG GOOGL Google, and Nvidia.
  • Microsoft President Brad Smith met the EU antitrust regulators in a closed hearing on Tuesday attended by Sony, Google, and Nvidia executives to convince them regarding the Activision deal.
  • Meanwhile, Microsoft forged a ten-year deal with Nintendo Co, Ltd NTDOF NTDOY to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms.
