Mercedes Taps Google Maps, Cloud, YouTube For In-Car Navigation Capabilities

Mercedes Benz Group AG MBGAF and Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOGL Google collaborated to accelerate auto innovation further and create the industry's next-generation digital luxury car experience.
The financial terms of the deal remained undisclosed.
Mercedes-Benz became the first automaker to build its branded navigation experience based on new in-car data and navigation capabilities from the Google Maps Platform.

Mercedes Benz will gain access to Google's leading geospatial offering, including detailed information about places, real-time and predictive traffic information, and automatic rerouting under the deal.
The companies proposed to bring the YouTube app into the Mercedes-Benz infotainment system.
Also, Mercedes-Benz will use Google Maps data to enable assisted driving features like automatic speed adjustments before intersections, roundabouts, or curves.
The companies agreed to explore further collaboration using Google Cloud's leading artificial intelligence (AI), data, and open infrastructure solutions.
"Our partnership with Mercedes-Benz brings advanced technologies from Google Maps Platform, Cloud, and YouTube to help create new experiences for drivers. In addition to enabling Mercedes-Benz to design a customized navigation interface, we'll provide our AI and data capabilities to accelerate their sustainability efforts, advance autonomous driving, and create an enhanced customer experience," CEO Sundar Pichai said.
Price Action: GOOG shares closed lower by 0.27% at $91.80 on Wednesday.
