AirPods Houdini? How To Outsmart Your Forgetful Brain And Keep Apple Buds Safe

Apple Inc.‘s AAPL AirPods are widely used by millions of users around the world, but a recurring issue among many users is losing the small earbuds.

What Happened: AirPods are preferred by many users globally for their sleek design, seamless integration and advanced features. Losing these fairly expensive earbuds can be incredibly frustrating.

Fortunately, Apple device owners can set “Separation Alerts” on their iPhones, iPads, iPod touch and Apple Watch to ensure they never leave their AirPods behind. 

Here’s how to turn on “Separation Alerts” on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch: 

Step I: Open Find My app, tap Devices and then tap the name of your AirPods.

Step II: Below Notifications, tap Notify When Left Behind.

Step III: Turn on Notify When Left Behind and follow the onscreen directions.

Bonus Tip: Users can also add a trusted location. Just choose a suggested zone or tap on New Location. Select the preferred location on the map and tap Done. 

How To Turn On Separation Alerts On Apple Watch

Step I: Open the Find Devices app on your Apple Watch. 

Step II: Tap the name of your AirPods

Step III: Scroll up, tap Notify When Left Behind, and turn it on. 

It is important to note that to set alerts on third-generation AirPods, all-generation AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, users can use the Find My app when the Find My Network is on.

People using second-generation AirPods Pro will need iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, or later to use the Find My network.
