Tesla Removes Radars From China-Made Model Y Crossovers

Tesla Inc. TSLA is reportedly removing radars from its crossover Model Y in China.

What Happened: Tesla is removing radars from China-made Model Y crossovers, reported CnEVPost. In a list of change filings for current models in China, released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, four variations of the Model Y crossover were featured, stated the report.

Tesla commenced the removal of radar on its cars in 2021 with Model 3 and Model Y.

In 2022, it started removing radars on Model S and Model X. The radars were replaced with Tesla Vision, a camera-based autopilot system.

Starting October 2022, all Model 3 and Model Y built for regions including North America, Europe, Middle East, Taiwan and Korea began to solely on Tesla Vision.

“Today, in most regions around the globe, these vehicles rely on Tesla Vision, our camera-based Autopilot system,” Tesla stated on its website.

As per preliminary data released by the China Passenger Car Association, Tesla’s China sales rose 31.7% year-over-year to 74,402 units in February. Though less than the record 100,291 sales recorded in November, the numbers are still 12.6% higher than January.
